Port Moresby Masterplan, Papua New Guinea
The new masterplan in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea consists of approximately 40 hectares of existing and re-claimed land to provide developable area for up to four hotels, 370,000 sq m of commercial development, a ‘village quarter’ with over 2,000 apartments, a retail and entertainments hub, a maritime quarter with a potential liner berth, and a new private marina. A key feature within the masterplan will be a convention centre approximately 20,000 sq m in size, due to be built for the APEC meeting in 2018.

According to a statement released by the Airports Vanuatu Limited, January through put was stronger in International, up 2.5% from an additional 8.9% of seats reflecting peak demand. Domestic is traditionally quieter in January.
Port Vila’s number one domestic route is to Pekoa Airport, Santo, carrying 45% of domestic passengers. The number two route is to Whitegrass Airport, Tanna, carrying 30% of passengers. Three-quarters of domestic traffic at Bauerfield is to/from AVL’s other two airports on Santo and Tanna.
Much of Bauerfield’s additional growth can be attributed to Air Vanuatu’s additional leased aircraft. International seat capacity in six months’ time for a typical week in August 2019, is forecast to increase 2.5% on August 2018, from six additional movements on average.

The airline says flight disruptions may be expected and customers will be provided with a re-adjusted itinerary, subject to availability. Customers are able to update their local contact details by logging in ‘My Booking’ on www.airvanuatu.com.
“Whilst we understand that this may cause some inconvenience, our team is happy to assist whenever possible,” said a spokesman.

ICCC plans to grant PNG Air, Virgin Australia code sharing

PORT MORESBY, 22 FEBRUARY 2019 (POST COURIER) – The Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) has proposed to grant authorisation to PNG Air Limited (PNG Air) to give effect to a code-share agreement it has entered into with Virgin Australia for services between Port Moresby, PNG, and Brisbane, Australia.
Commissioner and chief executive officer Paulus Ain said: “While acknowledging that free sale code-share arrangement is not very competitive, the arrangement will allow a new marketing carrier to enter the market.
“The ICCC considers that in the present circumstances, it is better to have PNG Air start with the free sale arrangement.”
It has considered that the following public benefits are likely to result if the parties provide the code-share services: Travelers’ choice of marketing carriers would be increased (from three to four; travelers’ would benefit from competitive airfares; direct connections and ease of luggage transfers for PNG Air’s domestic services; making Port Moresby as a transit hub; code-sharing would result in aggressive competition; increasing domestic competition; increase Port Moresby traffic for frequent service.
On the other hand, the ICCC noted that the following public detriments are likely to result; however, these are outweighed by the mentioned public benefits: Infrastructural barriers such as the availability of slots at the Port Moresby Jackson’s International airport.
The ICCC considers that despite the recent redevelopment at the Jackson’s airport, there was no evidence which suggested that slot availability was increased.
Another detriment was regulatory requirements such as airline designation and capacity requirements as per bilateral agreements between PNG and Australia can prove at times, to be a barrier to entry.
Before an airline could operate international services to another country, the government must first negotiate a treaty level agreement with the destination country’s government.

Be Careful on Visa for Airports jn Australia

Today is January 6, 2019 I am at the Denpasar International airport. I arrived here at 20.00 or eight at night and right now I am writing this entry at 23.06
Three hoars gone since I arrived here.
I want supposed to check in at 08.00pm and my plane has already departed for Brisbane at 22.10.
I was refused to check in because the Malindo Air from Denpasar to Brisbane is not issuing my boarding pass.
The counter told me I need to entery visa number for Australia in order to my boarding pass to be printed.
I stepped back, asked the person who bought my ticket. I got two replies. The first one is that it is OK if it is less than 8 hours layover in Australia.
The second answer was a screenshot sent to me saying "no visa required" in the ticketing office website
Of course both did not help.
I asked my colleague to ask the ticketing office but no luck
My advice for other travellers
Especially those holding Asian and African passports should know that entering into Australia is not easy. We need to avoid any flights transit in Australia and use transfer in Asia instead.
Secondly we need to make sure when traveling via the USA to r Australia that we need to book and buy tickets when they connecting flight is the same airline. If not then you need to check out and if you need to check out then you will need visa..
those who are traveling to Melaneaia my advice is to choose the Asia routes not Australia ones. To go to Vanuatu I suggest you to use Fiji Airlines. To go to PNG it is cheaper and safer to use Phillipines Airlines. Just avoid Australia totally.
